Scholarships & Grants

The NRM Educational Foundation (est. 1991, 501(c)(3)) provides financial support for members and schools pursuing professional development.

Individual Scholarships

Deadline: November 15

Covers NRM-sanctioned event fees. Requires a completed application form and a recommendation letter from your Snowsports School Director.

Late applications accepted through Feb 15 pending available funds. If you received a scholarship last season, you are not eligible this season.

School Grants

Deadline: December 1

For NRM member schools. Requires a written statement about school goals and a completed school grant application form.

Post-award requirements

Individuals: Participate in the event and submit an article, letter, photos, or video describing how it applied to your professional goals.

Schools: Provide an event roster, staff report, goals achievement report, and photos/video from the event.

Contact the NRM office at 406-581-6139 for scholarship application forms.

Maintaining Your Certification

Keep your certification active with continuing education credits (CEUs).

CEU Requirements

  • 6 CEUs per season, OR
  • • Average of 12 CEUs over any two-season period
  • • Excess credits (beyond 6) carry over to the following season only
  • • Clinics in any discipline count — they don't need to match your certification
Non-PSIA education credits
You may receive up to 12 CEUs every four seasons for qualifying educational events taken outside of PSIA-AASI. Submit the Non-PSIA Event form with a $50 processing fee.
Medical exceptions & inactive status

Medical: Requires doctor verification on letterhead.

Inactive Status: Up to 4 years in the first cycle, requiring 12 CEUs during that period.

Non-compliance: First violation triggers a $40 prepayment fee and Inactive Status.

Transferring between regions
Assessment results transfer between regions only if the entire event is successfully completed. Partial completions require retaking the full NRM assessment. Clinics from other regions count for CEUs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become a ski instructor?

Get hired at a PSIA-AASI Member School, then register for a Level I assessment in your discipline. Check out our discipline pages for specific requirements.

Can I take clinics or assessments in another region?

Yes. Clinics in other regions count for CEUs and transfer automatically. For assessments, you need a permission letter from NRM, and the entire assessment must be completed — partial results don't transfer.

Is my certification from another region recognized here?

Yes — PSIA-AASI certification is nationally recognized across all regions.

Can I take a prep clinic in another region?

NRM recommends taking prep clinics locally since formats differ between regions. Contact your discipline chair for case-by-case substitutions. The clinic must be from the same or prior season as your assessment.

Why did I fail my assessment if I was the strongest skier?

Certification requires a complete package: technical understanding, communication, teaching ability, movement analysis, and skiing/riding proficiency. The strongest skier may not have the strongest teaching skills, and vice versa.

Is there a waitlist for full events?

Contact the NRM office at 406-581-6139. Events need at least 6 registrants to run. Registration deadlines help determine viability.

How do I access Pro Deals?

Pro Deals are managed through the national website. Browse the Accessories Catalog and Sponsors & Partners pages.

How do I change my password on the PSIA-AASI website?

Sign into members.thesnowpros.org, click "My Profile" in the upper right, then select "Change My Password."
